21st Century Learners: Agentic and Lifelong Learners

Learner agency may be characterized as student voice, choice and ownership (IBO, 2018). This session will explore the value of creating a learning environment that supports agency to promote lifelong learning. This learning environment is grounded on best practices found in the literature such as goal-setting (Poon, 2018), reflection and self- efficacy (Bandura, 2001), teaching of self-management skills (Zimmerman and Schunk 1989), reframing the concept of failure (King, 2013) and design thinking. As the world continues to evolve, pedagogy and educational paradigm must adapt in order to prepare our learners in building a better tomorrow.
